520 _aOn the basis of financial charaterstics revealed by financial ratios, the study has been carried out with a purpose to classify the public sector banks in India in unified classes. A total of eighteen Indian public sector banks with more then 43000 branches were financilly analyzed and impect of asset management, operational efficiency and bank size on the financial performance of these banks were estimated with the jelp of the technique of simple regression. The study foud that a bank with with higher total capital, deposits, credits or total assets does not always mean that it has better financial performance.
